Speaking from the Three Centers

One of the things people feel with this gibberish exercise is that they feel really heard and understood. Even with gibberish!

From the gibberish exercise, we understand that there is two conversations happening at any one time: the content (the words, the meanings they hold) and the animal conversation (how to feel, how to react to what is being said)

Emotions and states of being are incredibly infectious. In this video, we put our attention on how to speak this language of the animal body: our tone, our inflection, the resonance of our voice.

Experiment: explore you’re different tones. Try speaking from your throat, the chest, and the diaphragm.

When people are activated, there is a strong aversion to people speaking from the throat. It often signals nervousness, tension, close-mindedness, comfort and rejection. It drives up fear in people who are activated that they are going to be attacked or made wrong, or that the person believes they are bad or wrong. It is often described as feeling condescending.

When we speak from the diaphragm, especially when we are mirroring, the other person can feel the depth and resonance in us, which communicates that they matter and are affecting us.

Homework: try the diaphragmatic resonance, speaking from the lowest part of your body that you can. See if you can start a conversation between bodies, and see where it goes. Share about the experience with the WhatsApp group!
